Luke 16 Corp. is the “umbrella” organization for several programs that are geared toward helping people become happy, productive citizens. The following are the major programs offered:
Center for Christian Entrepreneurship (CCE) – The mission of this program is to assist people with a desire to own their own business. It is our desire to, not only help them get into business, but also to help them be successful and to pay back in financial and Kingdom-spreading ways.We do this by training and supporting successful business people in the ways they can use their experience to aid prospective entrepreneurs by mentoring them in the methodology that will make them successful. This will include helping participants determine their suitability to be an entrepreneur and to evaluate their business plan for viability.
R.E.A.C.T. Arcadia Valley – R.E.A.C.T. Missouri -This acrostic stands for Recruiting Entrepreneurs to Assist Communities to Thrive. In our latest project, a large facility was purchased using a grant for the creation of a combination small business incubator and a training facility designed to provide work experience for youth. There is a great need to stimulate business activity to take advantage of the traffic from several area attractions and to recover from the effects of a dam breach. Housing is also a problem in the towns, especially rental housing suitable for families that are the type that will have children in that school district.
The training venue was a café, which also includes meeting space designed to accommodate both personal and business events. Volunteers are needed to help conduct business in the café and to provide a positive witness to the young trainees. The incubator focused on businesses that create something. This ranged from arts and crafts to experiences that provide major enhancement to the attractions in the area. There was additional space for various businesses that help to attract visitors to downtown Ironton. Future plans included a co-working space with 24/7 access and private mail boxes with a physical location for package delivery.
All of this was designed to help build a strong sense of community while helping to improve the economic climate of the area. Sadly, while we achieved the major goals of the project, the grantor decided that the facility should be put to a different purpose. What was learned by this experience provides us with great knowledge about how to conduct such projects and the impact that they can have.
Dogwood Ridge Retreat Center – A 23-acre wooded, rustic site in Iron County, MO, is in process of being developed to serve the needs of the projects listed above and to be a location for Christian groups to conduct retreats. It is designed as a small-group setting with a focus on being able to “get away”. Facilities are not intended for activities but rather for a serene setting to experience God in a natural setting. Plenty of activities are available within a short drive as this is a tourist area.
